How Can a Woman Judge Over a Man

QUESTION:

I wanted to ask you about a verse. Judges 4:4, “And Deborah, a prophetess, the wife of Lapidoth, she judged Israel at that time.” Someone from work asked me about this verse and I wanted to answer her correctly. Can you tell me about this verse? How can a women judge over a man? How is she a prophetess? How is this woman a judge of a country? Those were some of the questions. Thank you and God bless.

Brian

ANSWER:

Dear Brian,

Let me answer your questions one at a time. First, a “prophetess” simply means that she was the prophets wife. The Scriptures don’t say, but I suspect that her husband was dead, and she became the leader of the country because no man would stand up and lead. You must remember that this story is in the Book of Judges. This was not a spiritual time in Israel’s history. The Scriptures describe this time in Judges 21:25 by saying, “In those days there was no king in Israel: every man did that which was right in his own eyes.” You will notice, they were not looking to do right in God’s eyes, but in man’s eyes.

With this in mind, you must realize that God is not justifying her ruling over men, it was just that no man would take a stand. Barak wouldn’t go unless Deborah went with him. You must always remember that in the void of leadership, someone must lead. If men won’t lead, then the women will step up and lead. This has happened in the homes of America. It doesn’t make it right, it simply shows that someone has to lead.

It should motivate every man to fulfill his role of leadership. Likewise, you must be careful about taking the philosophy that a lady is second class. This is not true! God simply chose for men to be the leaders. I hope this helps answer your question.

How Far Does Pastoral Authority Reach

QUESTION:

If a pastor walked into a man’s house and told him to purchase and use different silverware, change toothpaste brands, rearrange his furniture, cancel his email account and only kiss his wife in the dark on Thursday nights, would that man be living in rebellion against pastoral authority if he did not do all those things?

I have become acquainted with several pastors who are solid Bible preachers, but seem to want to take pastoral authority to a higher level than I ever thought reasonable.

I am genuinely afraid of the mentality that pretty much promotes as much loyalty to and worship of a pastor as God. Please don’t get me wrong or think I am a rebel. I am truly all for biblical spiritual authority, but when you fear a pastors preference more than God’s commands something is BAD WRONG.

Justin

ANSWER:

Maybe the question should be, is the pastor preaching the Word of God? A pastor is supposed to feed the flock not micromanage the flock. If it’s in the Book then preach it, but too many are trying to be lords over the flock. 1 Peter 5:3 says, “Neither as being lords over God’s heritage, but being ensamples to the flock.” You will notice that the pastor is to be an example, not a lord. The verses before are also very helpful when they say, “The elders which are among you I exhort, who am also an elder, and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and also a partaker of the glory that shall be revealed: Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight thereof, not by constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind;” (1 Peter 5:1-2)

The pastor is to feed the flock. That is in the church. Pastoral authority does not reach into the home. The husband is the head of the home, the pastor is the leader of the church, but GOD is over all. Lets get our eyes on God.

Finding Time to do Everything

Question:

Bro. Domelle, As an evangelist you travel all the time, how do you find time to do all that you have to such as; Bible study, sermon preparation, Bible reading, prayer, family time, and your own quiet time with the LORD.  In serving the Lord, it seems there is more on my plate than there used to be and I don’t want do any of it halfheartedly. Thank you for your time – Efrain

Answer:

Bro Frias,

I appreciate your question.  Certainly finding time to do everything is always an adventure.  Everything you mentioned is highly important in my life and I feel if I fail in one of these areas that it will affect the other areas.

I have found that the best way to accomplish everything that I need to do is to live by schedule.  Psalm 90:12 says, “So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.” Numbering your days is living by schedule.  If you don’t learn to live by schedule then you will find that you will never have time to accomplish what needs to be done.  Living by schedule will keep you from allowing little unscheduled items that will eat up your day to keep you from what you need to do.

I hope this answers your question.

How Long Does it Take a Murderer to get to Heaven?

Question:

If someone brutally murders a person, how long will it take her soul to be with God? She was a Christian. Florentino Galvan

Answer:

Dear Florentino Galvan,

The one thing we must always remember when it comes to these hard questions is that God does not think like we think.  God always acts according to His Word.

The Scriptures say in 2 Corinthians 5:8, “We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.” Notice that as soon as we die our soul will be in Heaven.  So the answer to your question is immediately.  There is not time for penance for all sins were paid for when she accepted Christ.  Let me remind you that Moses was a murderer as well.  Also, remember that when the thief on the cross accepted Christ, Jesus said to him in Luke 23:43, “…Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with me in paradise.”

I hope this answers your question.

When is a Good Time to Pray?

Question:

Is there a certain time of day to pray? I heard in the morning at noon and at night. I know it is sad to ask this question, could please guide me thank you. – Nelson

Answer:

Dear Friend,

I appreciate your question concerning when is a good time to pray.  The Scriptures teach us that we should always pray.  Luke 18:1 says, “And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint;” In other words, God is teaching us that every time is a good time to pray.  Furthermore, God teaches in 1 Thessalonians 5:17, “Pray without ceasing.” The Christian should have a prayer life.

But to be more direct with your question, there are several instances that God shows us that people prayed three times a day.  I believe that you should daily have a set time of prayer.  I believe according to Matthew 6:33 we should make this time in the morning.  Though it would be good to spend time with God throughout the day, I believe if you will have a set time that it will help you to be consistent in your prayer life.

I hope this helps,

Is the King James Bible Inspired?

Question:

Is the King James inspired and why?

Michael

Answer:

Dear Michael,

This is a great question that as of the past few months has been a very hot topic in the fundamental, Baptist circles.  As for your question, YES, the King James Bible is inspired.  2 Timothy 3:16 says, “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:” You will notice several things about this verse.  First of all, God says, “All scripture…” He did not say just the originals, but “All scripture…” If the KJB is Scripture, and it is, then it is inspired.

Secondly, you will notice the word “is” is in the present tense.  God did not say, “All scripture was given…” but He said, “All scripture is given…” That means it is still inspired today.

Thirdly, inspiration means there is life, and through life we get understanding.  The Scriptures say in Job 32:8, “But there is a spirit in man: and the inspiration of the Almighty giveth them understanding.” You will notice that we can understand the Scriptures because They are inspired.  If the KJB was not inspired, then the Holy Spirit of God could not speak to us, thus we would not be able to understand the Scriptures.  It is important for the KJB to be inspired, because without inspiration we cannot understand the Them.

Fourthly, if the KJB were not inspired then we could not get saved for death cannot give life.  Because the KJB is inspired it means that it is alive.  This is why we can get saved today because they are STILL inspired.  If the KJB is not inspired, then nobody in the English-speaking world could get saved.

Next, Psalm 12:7 says, “Thou shalt keep them, O LORD, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever.” God promises in this verse that He would preserve His Word forever.  I want you to understand that God does not inspire a language, but God inspires His Words.  God Word was inspired in Heaven before there was a language on Earth.  Anything we have ever had on Earth that we called God’s Word, whether it were Greek, Hebrew, Aramaic or the English King James Bible is the inspired and preserved Word of God.  None of these were the “originals.”  John 1:1 tells us that Jesus is the original.  Nowhere in Scripture do you see that God only inspired the originals.  The terminology “originals” is a liberal terminology to make people believe that only experts can determine what is or is not Scripture.  Because God promised to preserve His Word, then we today have the inspired and preserved Word of God in the KJB.

I hope this helps to answer your question.

How to Deal with a Child’s Make-Believe Play?

Question:

An important question crossed my mind as I was reading your devotional on the subject of truth this morning. How do we best deal with this subject concerning children, and their “make believe” play?

We know very well that being “liars from the womb” kids can tell lies, “half-truths”, and “white lies” all on their own. It is not something we have to teach our children! But how do you teach them not to confuse “make-believe”, when it is all around them in this world? My two older children were not allowed to read fairy tales, for instance. I felt at that time these stories were not God’s best for them. But you could, potentially, allow a child to read a christian story, and still satan could use it against that child.

We are very interested to hear your thoughts on this matter, please, when you can allow time to respond.

Thank you so very much.

Mrs. Rogers

Answer:

Mrs. Rogers,

Make-believe is part of the creativity of a child’s life.  I wouldn’t try to squelch that as this is a very important part of a child becoming creative in life.  For instance, it takes creativity to come up with different ideas on how to present a truth.  Many times in the Scriptures Jesus used parables which were nothing more than Him creating a make-believe story to apply a truth.  Be careful about trying to stop this part of your child, but direct it in the right direction.  This is normal for children.  I will say this as well, it is important that children learn to live in the reality as well.  Many times children will withdraw themselves into a make-believe world to get away from reality of events that they do not like. Though I don’t believe that would be the case with your children, you must understand that children will do this at times.  Direct their make-believe to the positive and I believe you will be thankful later on in their life. I hope this answers your question.

How do I stick to a Bible reading schedule?

Question:

How do I stick to a Bible reading schedule?

Anthony Aaron

Answer:

Bro. Aaron,

The best way to stick to any schedule, but especially a Bible reading schedule is two ways.  First, you must have a schedule written down to follow.  If you have no written schedule to follow then you will not succeed in staying on schedule. Second, you must be accountable to someone who will make sure that you are following your schedule.  Accountability is always the best way to stick to a schedule.  If you will be accountable to someone for at least a 6 months, then you will find it will probably become a habit.  Of course, that is 6 months of consistently being faithful to your schedule.

I hope this answers your question.

How to Keep the Fires of Revival Burning?

Question:

How do you keep your fire and stay revived for God?

Answer:

Dear Sacha,

Sorry for the delay in answering your question.  This is a good question that I for which I wish more people had a desire.  Keeping your fire for God is not an easy task.  There are several things I do to keep my fire and stay revived.

First, I must get rid of sin quickly.  The quickest way to lose your fire is to let sin stay in your life.  I know this sounds too simple, but sin is to revival what water is to fire, it will quench it.  You must stay away from sin, and if you do sin, quickly get right with God.

Second, you must daily read your Bible and pray.  You will never keep a fire in your heart if you don’t spend time with God daily.  I have found in life that you will stay excited about whomever you spend time with.  If you spend time with God in the Scriptures and in prayer, you will find it easier to keep the fire going.

Third, be a soul winner.  Leading people to Christ is the best way that I have found to keep the fire of revival burning in my heart.  There is nothing like leading someone to Christ.  Soul winning has a reviving effect.

Last, invest your life in others.  Living for others will help you to keep the fire of revival burning.  When you help people and see them changing for the better, you will find your soul being stirred.  The greatest satisfaction you will find in life is in helping others.

By doing these things I believe you will find it easier to keep the fires of revival burning in your heart.

Does James 2 Promote Works Salvation?

Question:

I have heard James chapter 2 preached, that if a person is really saved they would do works. I am confused about it because the Bible also says, “For by grace are yes saved through faith; and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God; not of works, lest any man should boast.” I know for sure that I am saved, but I also know, no good thing dwelleth in me, and I am capable of not living for God, and not doing any works for Him. But I know that I am still saved, eternally. What am I not getting here? I don’t understand James 2.

Answer:

Gene,

This is a good question as many misunderstand this portion of Scripture. James is talking about an outward justification and not the inward justification that saves us. Let me explain. When you got saved others could not see the change that happened on the inside. Even though others did not see the change on the inside, the change did occur. The only way others can see that you have changed is how you live. James was dealing with people who were saved, but were not living like they were saved. He was simply trying to show that though you may be justified by God through the shed blood of Christ, but you will only be justified with mankind through your works. Works will not save you from sin, but they will prove to man that you are saved.

I hope this answers your question.
