Ezekiel 43:8
“In their setting of their threshold by my thresholds, and their post by my posts, and the wall between me and them, they have even defiled my holy name by their abominations that they have committed: wherefore I have consumed them in mine anger.”
It is amazing the justification that Israel used in their worship. Instead of choosing one god to serve, they decided they would practice two types of worship. They accommodated this type of worship by building a wall between God’s altar and the altar of the other gods. They felt that this wall was a good enough separation that would keep the peace between God and their gods.
Instead of building a wall to separate the two types of worship, they should have built a wall to keep any other god from coming into their land. They knew that Jehovah God was the God Who delivered them from Egypt, but their desire to mingle with the world brought them to the point where they justified their wall of compromise. The wall of compromise became a wall of judgment. Just because they deemed this type of worship to be okay didn’t mean that God accepted it.
Christian, just because you go to church on the weekends doesn’t justify living worldly during the week. Just like Israel built this wall to enable their compromising life, many Christians have built the same wall. That wall that they built is called a calendar. You often hear people call Sunday, “The LORD’s Day.” Friend, every day is the LORD’s day. Psalm 118:24 says, “This is the day which the LORD hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.” Going to church on the weekends doesn’t justify worldly living during the week. You can build a wall in your mind to justify this mentality, but God still holds you accountable to how you live 24/7/365.
Another way many have built the wrong type of wall is that they think because they do so much good for God that He will overlook their “pet” sin. God will never justify any sin. God doesn’t look at how much you do in the ministry and say it is okay to continually commit a certain sin. NO! He will judge any sin no matter how much you do for Him. Do you think you are different from King David who God judged because of his sin? Do you think you are different from Samson who continually won battles but continued to live a compromising life? Do you think you are different from Balaam who justified yoking up with Balak because he still prophesied truth? No, God does not justify your little sin because you do “so much” for Him. You can build a wall to separate your service to God from your pet sin in an attempt to justify it, but that wall is still wrong.
One other wall Christians build is a wall of ignorance. Many think that if they claim ignorance that God is okay with their sin. Again, absolutely not! You can bury your head in the sand when you know sin is being committed, but if you don’t deal with it God will judge accordingly. Covering your eyes to sin because you don’t want to deal with it doesn’t justify sinful actions. You must deal with sin.
If you are going to build a wall, build a wall to keep ALL sin and compromise out. Don’t be guilty of putting God on one side and sinful or compromising lifestyle on the other. God doesn’t live in a corner real well. He demands to be in control of all of your life. I challenge you to take these walls down and decide to make God your choice for every minute of every day.
