Ezekiel 36:25
“Then will I sprinkle clean water upon you, and ye shall be clean: from all your filthiness, and from all your idols, will I cleanse you.”
There is nothing like coming home after working in the heat of the day to a nice refreshing shower. Washing all the sweat and dirt off leaves you feeling better and will even energize you for the rest of the day. Taking a bath is almost like washing the stress and worries off and letting them go down the drain; it changes your perspective for the night.
God says this is what happens when a person gets right. He says in the verse above, “Then will I sprinkle clean water upon you, and ye shall be clean: from all your filthiness…” What is interesting is the difference that happens in a person when God gives the bath. Verse 26 shows what happens when it says, “A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh.” After taking a spiritual bath, a person will have a whole new outlook on life.
Sin will certainly muddy up life. As much a sin promises, it sure does leave you feeling a whole lot different. How many times have you yielded to sin’s temptation believing it would leave you feeling better only to feel dirty all over? This is exactly why you need to take a spiritual bath, it will make you feel better. Three things happen when you take a spiritual bath.
First, your desires will change. God says that when a person takes a spiritual bath that they get a “new heart.” It is amazing when a person gets right with God how their desires begin to change. The things they used to desire no longer seem to have the same tug on their heart or emotions. The reason is because they have taken a spiritual bath. You can’t tell me you can take a spiritual bath and still desire to do the same things. When God gives you a bath He changes your desires.
Second, when you take a spiritual bath, your attitude changes. God not only gives you a “new heart,” but He also gives you a “new spirit.” When a person gets right, their spirit about the things of the LORD will be different. Where they once used to hate doing the things of the LORD, after their spiritual bath they will want to do the things of the LORD. A spiritual bath will change the whole attitude of a person.
Third, when you get a spiritual bath, your emotions will change. Where before, when you were living in sin, the plight of sinful man didn’t bother you, after taking a spiritual bath you see their need of a Saviour. Where before you didn’t get as emotional over someone’s misfortune, now your heart grieves for those who are hurting. Taking a spiritual bath will change your emotions. Things of the LORD that didn’t excite you before will excite you now. After a spiritual bath, souls getting saved will thrill your soul. A spiritual bath will make the preaching and teaching of the Word of God exciting and leaving you wanting more. A spiritual bath will truly change your emotions.
Friend, everyone needs to take a spiritual bath every day. You take that spiritual bath by reading the Word of God, but also by taking the time to confess your sins to God. There is only one reason anyone would not enjoy serving the LORD, and that would be because they are spiritually dirty. If you take a spiritual bath, you will find the enjoyment you desire in serving the LORD.
