Deuteronomy 10:17
“For the LORD your God is God of gods, and Lord of lords, a great God, a mighty, and a terrible, which regardeth not persons, nor taketh reward:”
I don’t think that we can ever be reminded enough of the greatness of God. As sinful humans we oftentimes forget how great God is which leads us into times of doubt, discouragement and even departing from the faith. The verse above gives us a great reminder of the greatness of God. Let me show you several things that this verse reminds us about God’s greatness.
First, God is the source of all power. This verse says, “God is God of gods, and Lord of lords.” Certainly there are other gods, but even if those gods were real they would still have to bow to our God. Before they existed He was. If another god or lord has power, it still has to get its power from God. This verse says that God is the LORD. When you see all the letters capitalized, it is talking about Jehovah God. Jehovah means the self-existent or eternal God. In other words, other gods and lords have a beginning, but Jehovah God has no beginning because He is all powerful. What a comfort this should bring to you that you serve the God Who is the source of all power.
Second, God is fair to all people. The verse above says that God “regardeth not persons, nor taketh reward:” God can’t be bought! What God does for one He does for all. When you hear the stories of what God has done for someone else, you can take courage that He will do the same for you if needed. Always remember that God doesn’t love you for who you are or for what you can do for Him, but He loves you because you are you. I know this sounds strange, but God didn’t choose to love us at our best. He chose to love us in our worst condition.
Third, God has all power to meet every need. Whatever your need is today, let this devotional remind you that He has the power to meet that need. All you have to do is go to Him and ask Him. If your need is financial, remember that He is the source of all finances. If your need is health, remember that He is the giver of life. If your need is deliverance, remember that He has and will continue to deliver. Whatever your need is today, God has the power to meet that need.
Fourth, God cares for the least and the hurting. Verse 18 says, “He doth execute the judgment of the fatherless and widow…” As great as God is, He is not too great to come to the lowest of us and care for us. Normally, someone of great stature would never take the time to care for the least, but not God. God is concerned with the little child who is fatherless. God is concerned with the widow who wonders how she will pay her bills. You may find yourself as the least in society and think nobody truly cares for you, but God cares. There is nobody ever so lowly that God would not care for them.
Friend, you serve a great God. Let me encourage you to take some time and thank Him for caring for you. If you are one who wonders if anyone truly cares for you, let these verses be your security blanket that God does care for you.
