Organizing Life

1 Chronicles 28:1
“And David assembled all the princes of Israel, the princes of the tribes, and the captains of the companies that ministered to the king by course, and the captains over the thousands, and captains over the hundreds, and the stewards over all the substance and possession of the king, and of his sons, with the officers, and with the mighty men, and with all the valiant men, unto Jerusalem.”

You will only accomplish in life to the degree that you are capable of organizing. Those who accomplish more in life are not usually more talented than others, it is simply that they are better at organizing their life than others. I’ve seen men who are talented pastors but are poor organizers and they never truly reach their potential because of their poor organization. I’ve seen men who are not the most talented in business achieve great success because they knew how to organize their life. The degree of your accomplishments in any realm of life will be determined by your ability to organize.

Solomon was a great organizer. In the verse above, you see that Solomon organized the building of the temple. There were companies, and their were captains of those companies. The troops were organized by hundreds and thousands, and there were captains over those groups according to their ability. They all had a set time that they were to do their jobs and they had defined jobs that they were to do. Solomon succeeded in building the temple because he organized his life.

The first thing you must do to organize your life is to categorize your life. The companies that Solomon organized were a categorization of the people. Each company was in charge of a different category. You need to look at your life and see the categories in which you are involved. For instance, in your life you have family, church, employment, marriage, personal and enjoyment. These are just to name a few. You need to look at your life and determine them by category.

Second, you must organize your life according to importance. Notice that Solomon had groups of hundreds and thousands. Each group had its level of importance. The categories of your life are at a different level of importance at different times each day and week. You must determine the level of importance for each category of life.

Third, you must determine what needs to be done in each category every day and week. The companies each had a specific task that they were to accomplish. As you go through the importance of categories, each day and week there are going to be things that must be done. Categorize each activity which must be done by level of importance.

Fourth, you must organize times for each task and obligation. Each company served the king “by course.” In other words, they each had a set time to serve the king. You must learn to schedule each obligation and task that you have and only work on those things during that time. Don’t worry about what you are going to do next, but do what you are supposed to do at that time. Take care of the next thing on your list when its time comes. When your schedule dictates that you are to be done with something, then stop! This is all part of organizing your life.

Friend, you can truly advance in life if you will learn how to organize your life. Ladies could accomplish more in the home if they were organized. Men could accomplish more in their lives if they were organized. Christians could do more for God if they had organized lives. I encourage you to start organizing your life. There is more you can do for Christ, but it will never be done until you are organized.
