Filling Your House With God

2 Chronicles 5:13
“It came even to pass, as the trumpeters and singers were as one, to make one sound to be heard in praising and thanking the LORD; and when they lifted up their voice with the trumpets and cymbals and instruments of musick, and praised the LORD, saying, For he is good; for his mercy endureth for ever: that then the house was filled with a cloud, even the house of the LORD;”

“The house was filled with a cloud, even the house of the LORD;” This must have been what David imagined when he initiated the building of the temple. All the work that Solomon and the workers put into the temple paid off when they saw God’s presence resting upon it. This was not only a satisfying moment, but it was a sacred moment knowing that God’s presence had come down upon the temple.

The temple was called the “house of the LORD.” I truly believe that our homes should be the house of the LORD. I understand that this was talking about the temple, but wouldn’t you want God’s presence in your home? If God’s presence was in every home, then you would find that husbands and wives would get along. You would see brothers and sisters getting along with each other. You would see parents and children working together. If the presence of God was in your home, there is no doubt there would be a different spirit than what you have right now. You can have the presence of God in your home if you will take the steps Solomon took that brought God’s presence on the temple.

First, your home must be united in serving the LORD. It is very important that everyone in the home served the LORD together. You must be careful about everyone going their different ways in serving the LORD. Make it a family affair to serve the LORD together.

Second, the whole family needs to make the same sound. You will notice they made one sound. It is important that there are not different sounds coming from your home. What I mean by this is that both parents and children need to be on the same page in serving God. Parents shouldn’t have standards and the children look like the world. Husband and wife must be together in what they believe concerning serving the LORD; likewise the children should live the same way as their parents. There should not be two different philosophies of serving the LORD; there should only be one.

Third, the family should praise and thank the LORD together. I believe this is family devotions. You will not have God’s presence in your home when you don’t have a time when you read the Scriptures and pray together. When the whole family does these things together, then you are inviting God’s presence into your home.

Fourth, playing the right music in the home is important to having God’s presence. Music plays an important part in the Christian’s life. It would be wise to have good Christian music playing in the background of your home throughout the day. This will help to keep a godly atmosphere in your home.

Fifth, make it a point to talk about the good things God is doing in your home and church. Don’t talk about the negative that you see in life, but make your home a place where everyone hears what God is doing in each other’s lives. I believe it would be good to have a time of testimony to talk about God working in each person’s life. If you made a big decision at the church altar, talk about it with each other. Let the home be a place where talking about God working in each other’s life is common place.

Yes, you can have God’s presence in your home. These five areas are vital to see the presence of God in your home. If God’s presence dwells in your home, then you will see your family serving the LORD for many years to come.
