Aggressive Driving

2 Kings 4:24
“Then she saddled an ass, and said to her servant, Drive, and go forward; slack not thy riding for me, except I bid thee.”

The LORD has blessed me with the opportunity to speak in foreign countries several times. When I go to foreign countries, the one thing that takes getting used to is the way they drive. Their driving is much different from how we drive in the United States.

Several years ago, I took a trip to the Philippines with a pastor friend of mine from the Northwest. It was his first time in the Philippines, and he certainly had never seen driving like theirs. As we sat in the van for about an hour driving to the town where we would preach, the driver was weaving in and out of traffic and passing cars on a curve on a two-lane road. It was no doubt an experience for this pastor. Every time we would pass a car, he held a newspaper up so that he couldn’t see the impending danger ahead. In this pastor’s opinion, the driver was driving aggressively.

In the verse above, I find that a woman who’s son was deathly ill and needed to get to the man of God as quickly as possible asked her driver to drive aggressively by saying, “Drive and go forward; slack not thy riding for me, except I bid thee.” This aggressive driving was for the sake of saving her son’s life. She knew the only hope for his life was for the man of God to come and touch his body.

Just as this boy needed the driver to be aggressive to save his life, we need Christian’s today who are aggressive drivers. No, I’m not talking about going out on the highways today and driving aggressively, but I’m talking about people who need to get an aggressive spiritual drive inside of them. I see too many Christians who have a passive spiritual drive, and it is hurting the lives and souls of those whom they could influence. There are four reasons you need to have an aggressive spiritual drive.

First, lives are at stake. There are souls around you everyday that need to have someone who is aggressive about reaching them before they go to Hell. A passive spiritual drive will only let people go to Hell, but those who have an aggressive spiritual drive will do everything in their power to reach those who are lost for Jesus Christ.

Second, your family is at stake. Today’s family is in desperate need for someone to have an aggressive spiritual drive to do right. Families don’t accidentally turn out right. They turn out right when someone in the family is aggressive about serving the LORD. The spiritual future of your family will be determined by how aggressive your spiritual drive is.

Third, your future is at stake. You need an aggressive spiritual drive for your own future. Friend, your spiritual future isn’t going to be bright if you don’t have an aggressive spiritual drive. The drive inside of you to please God should be aggressive. Your future will be determined by your drive.

Fourth, future generations are at stake. You can make a difference in the future if you will step up your spiritual drive. There are generations of people who are not even born that depend on you to do something for God. If you’re passive about your spiritual life, then those generations will not see the Christianity you have seen.

Are you an aggressive spiritual driver? Do people see your spiritual drive as different from the rest? I encourage you not to be passive about the things of God. Let your spiritual drive stir you to do more things for God. Don’t have the type of drive that just shows up, but have the aggressive type of spiritual drive that is involved, and it involves you with all of your being. This is the type of drive that will make a difference in your world.
