Destructive Actions

Ezekiel 16:49
“Behold, this was the iniquity of thy sister Sodom, pride, fulness of bread, and abundance of idleness was in her and in her daughters, neither did she strengthen the hand of the poor and needy.”

Sodom will always go down in history for their destruction. We often think that God destroyed Sodom for the sin of sodomy, but you can find there were other destructive actions they committed that caused God to destroy the whole city.

The destructive actions that Sodom committed will also destroy a person if they do the same. Always remember that the sins of Sodom were committed by individuals. The reason God destroyed the whole city was because the whole city got caught up in these actions. Yet, the same actions will destroy individuals. Let me show you these destructive actions that will destroy you.

The first destructive action is having a destructive spirit. Pride is a destructive spirit. Pride is the attitude that a person is better than others. This will destroy any person or organization. Always remember that you are no better than anyone else, but you are also no worse than anyone else. Pride is always the core of sin. If you will keep your pride in check, then you will keep most sin away.

The second destructive action is having destructive desires. “Fulness of bread” was one of the sins that destroyed Sodom. This is the attitude that what you have is never enough, you always have to have more, what we have is never good enough, or enough is never enough. Friend, be content with what you have, and tell yourself that you don’t always need more.

The third destructive action is having destructive priorities. Sodom was filled with an “abundance of idleness.” They had their priorities wrong in that they wanted to play before they worked. They wanted everything without having to work. This action will destroy your life. You must always keep in mind that work comes before play. Work is not a bad thing. Work is godly.

The fourth destructive action is having a destructive behavior. Sodom was “haughty,” which simply means they had the attitude that they could do anything they wanted because nothing could take them down. They were so arrogant they felt they could do anything they wanted and get away with it. Always be careful about having a false sense of security that you can do whatever you want and never have to worry about the consequences. Haughtiness will give you a false sense of security in yourself and your abilities, which will eventually destroy you. You can’t do whatever you want and get away with it.

The last destructive action is having destructive lusts. Of course, Sodom was filled with vile affections. This is the last stage a person reaches before their destruction. You must keep your lusts under control. Your flesh will drive you to do ungodly things, and they may please you for a short period, but their consequences will come.

Friend, whatever you do, don’t allow these destructive actions in your life. Right now, ask the Holy Spirit to show you if you have any of these actions in your life. Be honest with yourself and listen to His voice. If there is a hint of any of these actions in your life, then quickly deal with them and get rid of them. These actions destroyed Sodom, and any one of these actions will destroy you.
